Is it possible to consult a neurologist at IENA?
Yes. However, our practice is focused on specialised consultations, aligned with the specific fields of expertise of our neurologists. Currently, we provide dedicated consultations for neuromuscular diseases (disorders of the peripheral nerves, muscles, and myasthenic syndromes). We do not offer general neurology consultations. Consequently, we do not currently treat conditions falling within the following areas: headaches, epilepsy, stroke, cognitive disorders, or tremors.
What are the reimbursement options for my medical examinations?
Upon presentation of your valid French Carte Vitale and your up-to-date complementary health insurance (mutuelle) certificate, we offer direct billing (tiers-payant) for the standard state-regulated fees. Consequently, you will only need to pay the additional doctor's fees (dépassement d'honoraires). The electronic transmission of your healthcare form (feuille de soins) and the provision of a paid invoice will enable you to request reimbursement for these additional fees from your insurance provider, subject to your policy's terms.
How should I prepare for my consultation or examination?
Please remember to bring your referral letter or prescription, as well as your test results, which you can send to us via email or Doctolib. For EMG and SEP examinations, we recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing. On the day of your appointment, please avoid applying creams or lotions to the areas being examined. You may eat and take your usual medication as normal, unless advised otherwise.
Is a prescription or a referral letter required?
Yes, a neuromuscular consultation requires a referral letter from your general practitioner or specialist specifically for this purpose. Diagnostic investigations are carried out upon presentation of a prescription.
Are the medical examinations painful?
Overall, clinical neurophysiology examinations are minimally invasive and painless. EMG and SEP rely on low-intensity electrical stimulation that is completely safe. The sensation experienced varies from one patient to another, and while it can sometimes be uncomfortable, it is rarely painful. The EMG also involves examining a few muscles using a needle, which is extremely fine and causes minimal discomfort. At IENA, we make every effort to ensure your examinations are as comfortable and pain-free as possible.
Will I be able to resume my normal activities after the examination?
Yes, you will be able to move around, drive, and work as normal.
